Well, yesterday was not an especially pleasant day at the Monkeyhouse...On the one hand, we grieve with friends over the loss of those they loved. On the other hand, we also suffered a minor setback here ourselves.

Nothing truly "serious" but painful nontheless...as Missy O can attest. Yes, Missy O is the first of our Monkeys to receive stitches! OUCH!

Seems her brother went to the kitchen to make peanutbutter toast, while she was on the couch. She got up to follow him, and failed to navigate the path between the couch and the rocking chair where the eldest Monkey was seated...Missy O was wearing slick socks on her feet, on the laminate flooring, when she tripped over the rocker leg. Thus proned out at a high rate of speed, she met with said flooring, chin first!

Yes she split her chin open with a serious wailing, and a fair bit of blood all over the floor. Cody dog only wanted to stick his cold wet nose in her ear, but Charlie dog, that diehard old nursemaid that he is, stood by her, softly licking her hands.

After getting her calmed down, cleaned up and assessing the damage--luckily no teeth were damaged, I steri-stripped it all back together and slapped a bandaid on top of it all. I later consulted with a friend who has a fair bit of medical experience, and he suggested it might be better stitched. I called the dr. office and they did minor 'sewing' on site, and they consented to see us asap. So off we went.

Missy O was quite the trooper in the stitching room too. Oh she whimpered a bit BEFORE the needle was given, but didn't make a peep once they started injecting pain killer in her chin. No sound or flinching during the repair, either! And 5 stitches, and most of her annual medical deductible later (ouch!), here she is in all her new-sewn glory!

January 5th, 2012. This is a date that I will remember for quite awhile...

From a recorded high of 267 pounds down to today. It's taken me just over seven months.

And I am not stopping here.
